Dixie State College ROTC Awards Cadet Scholarship to Enterprise Native

ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College’s Army ROTC program announced it has awarded a three-year scholarship to DSC to incoming Cadet Russell Peacock from Enterprise, Utah. Cadet Peacock, who has spent the last eight years serving in the United States Air Force, was presented a check for $13,464 by DSC senior military science instructor Major (Ret.) James Dupras and Captain Gerald Williams, DSC assistant professor of military science.

According to Major Dupras, Cadet Peacock met certain criteria, including academic, athletic and leadership attributes, which went above and beyond the average cadet. Peacock also had to meet the physical fitness requirements, in which he scored 292 points out of a possible 300 points, and met required medical and security clearances as part of the selection process.

Dixie State’s Army ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) program was established in the fall of 2007. DSC’s ROTC program is a reserve branch of Southern Utah University’s program, which both run through the Utah National Guard. In addition, both DSC and SUU programs are affiliated with the active-duty ROTC program at Brigham Young University. The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program is a college-based, officer-commissioning program. It is designed as a college elective course that focuses on leadership development, problem solving, strategic planning and professional ethics. Army ROTC units are organized as brigades and battalions.
