Celebrate recovery and fight addiction at Southwest Utah Recovery Day

Recovery Day

ST. GEORGE – The community is invited to celebrate recovery and join the fight against addiction at Southwest Utah Recovery Day on Sept. 27.

Recovery Day has been held in St. George previously, but this year’s event will be more official. At a city council meeting in August, City of St. George Mayor Daniel D. McArthur unveiled a signed proclamation declaring Sept. 27 the Southwest Utah Recovery Day. The proclamation was received by Angi Graff of the Southwest Behavioral Health Center, which is sponsoring the event along with the City, the Washington County Prevention Coalition, the Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness, the Utah Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health and the My Last Call Radio Show with Dan Murphy.

In the evening of Sept. 26, a 5-kilometer Fun Walk/Run for Recovery will start and end at the Dixie Center St. George. The main event, however, will be held in the afternoon of Sept. 27 at the St. George Town Square. Featuring live music by The Psychotropix and the Pine Mountain Bluegrass Band, highlights include family games and activities, free food and an informational fair. A variety of speakers will also be on hand to share personal stories of addiction and recovery.

Despite the serious nature of substance abuse, the event is intended for all ages to enjoy and learn. According to the Southwest Behavioral Health Center, “Recovery Day celebrates individual, family and community recovery from the effects of addiction, thereby strengthening this community in which we live.”
