ST. GEORGE – Over 900 registered kids finished their races through the same finish line as the real Ironman competitors will cross tomorrow.
In association with Ironman, IronKids, the City of St. George and the St. George Exchange Club partnered together to host the Kids Fun Run for kids 12 and under. The IronKids offered two courses: a 200 meter sprint and a 1 mile loop.

Rob “Fireman Rob” Verhelst was there at the beginning of each race supporting the kids. Not only were kids getting high fives from a Ground Zero search and recovery fireman but a real Ironman. Verhelst has been running in his full firefighting suit since the 9/11 attacks. He has run 10 full distance Ironmans and three Ironman 70.3 triathlons in full firefighter apparel.
“This year my whole misson is about kids,” Verhelst said. “And showing kids that anything is possible.”
Brynne Rindisbacher, 11, has run a couple races before, including one up at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi. Rindisbacher said this time she wants to get faster and work harder.
“Keep practicing and you’ll get faster” said Rindisbacher.
According to IronKids’ website the mission of IronKids is to inspire and motivate kids through the sport to lead an active, positive, and healthy lifestyle.
