ST. GEORGE — A construction worker was transported by medical helicopter to Las Vegas, Friday, after falling 15 to 20 feet at a work site.

The construction worker, a 54-year-old male, fell around 15 feet from a site adjacent to Stephen Wade Auto Center at approximately 11:15 a.m., Friday, suffering injuries to his head and left shoulder, St. George Fire Captain David Slack said.

A witness at the scene said the man fell off the first story of the construction site and landed on his head.

“I think he broke through a safety line,” said Stephen Wade, owner of the Stephen Wade Auto dealerships in the area.

Gold Cross Ambulance Service arrived on scene followed by the St. George Fire Department. The man is being transported by Life Flight to University Medical Center in Las Vegas as they have better specified care for head injuries, Slack said. The cause of the fall in currently unknown.

“All we know is he just fell off the first story there about 15 feet,” Slack said.

The man was stabilized and alert on scene before he was loaded into the helicopter. “We’re giving him oxygen and making sure he is comfortable,” Slack said.

The man’s name has not yet been disclosed and the incident is under investigation.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by responders on scene and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Ed. Note: It was originally reported that the height the man fell from was greater than it actually was. This error has been corrected.

No brain damage or spinal cord injury should be released in a day or two.

  • Jamie February 21, 2014 at 7:22 pm

All of the pictures still have incorrect captions, thus adding to the confusion.

Here is a new idea. IHC should make Dixie Regional a level one trauma center with all the accidents here and the sports minded activities that we have. Also they need to pay a real wage to their staff. Nurses are paid the least in the USA here. Nurses have to be accountable for peoples lives since they see and treat the patients more than Doctors do. Time to step up and pay a real wage

    • Bub February 23, 2014 at 1:34 pm

maybe you should right them a letter, or stand with a sign in protest…

    • Bender February 23, 2014 at 3:09 pm

Wages across all professions are lower here. Do only nurses get a raise when we STOP TOLERATING STUPIDITY?

      • Bub February 23, 2014 at 5:44 pm

What are we going to do about the BIG BAD WOLF (OBAMA) wanting a $10/hr minimum wage. How will we continue to oppress the workers?
