ST. GEORGE – Hopes to sell a car went up in smoke for a young couple when they discovered the car caught fire Saturday afternoon.
Around 4 p.m., Saturday, the St. George Communications Center received a call from a residence in the Moon River subdivision located at 470 East 1100 South. Police scanner traffic reported the front of a gray Nissan Maxima parked in a driveway had become engulfed in flames.
Both St. George Police and Fire personnel arrived on the scene and found the car on fire. Firefighters quickly put the fire out, but the car appears to be a complete loss, St. George Police Sgt. Dave Williams said at the scene.
Williams said the young couple who owned the Nissan Maxima were planning to post the car for sale online. Prior to the fire, they had moved the car out of the garage and cleaned it so they could take photos of it. They went inside for a moment, and when they returned they found the front of the car on fire and called dispatch.
The fire was contained to the car and the cause is currently unknown, though Williams said it does not appear to be human-caused. Despite the loss, Williams said the car was insured.

My first thought exactly, Insurance Fraud. Conveniently cleaned out and moved out of the garage. Perfect story for the cops and the insurance company. This is just another story of a baby being cooked without any consequences and the “poor victim” gets some much needed $$$$ to boot.
catching fire to your car in your driveway is not really all that smart. I don’t believe that is the case here. I looked up about Maxima’s and fire related issues, just out of curiosity. There are issues with the fuel line in certain years, and this can pose as a firing issues, which in turn can lead to a fire.
Not saying this is the issue here, but it is possible.
