SALT LAKE CITY – The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has cancelled a previously issued “high wind watch,” but the previously issued wind advisory and red flag warning are both still in effect through 10 p.m. Saturday.
Labor Day weekend travelers and those planning to recreate on lakes and other bodies of water are urged to use caution in these windy conditions.

Affected areas
The Salt Lake and Tooele Valleys, Great Salt Lake Desert, west central and southwest Utah, including the cities of: Salt Lake City, Tooele, Wendover, Snowville, Delta, Fillmore, Beaver, Cedar City and Milford.
Winds
Southwest winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts of 50 mph will continue into Friday evening. Winds will drop off overnight and then pick up again on Saturday. Winds will shift to northwesterly Saturday afternoon and evening before decreasing.
Impacts
Expect strong crosswinds to develop on Interstate 80, U.S. Highway 6 and state Routes 56 and 21.
High-profile vehicle drivers and those pulling trailers should use extra caution. Visibilities may be reduced due to blowing dust.
Gusty wind will create rough chop on area waterways. Wind-sensitive operations may be impacted.
Precautionary/preparedness actions
A wind advisory means sustained wind speeds of at least 31 mph or gusts of 45 mph are expected. Motorists in the advisory areas should be prepared for sudden, gusty crosswinds, which can make driving difficult.
The strong winds will create dangerous boating conditions on area lakes. These winds will create very choppy water and generate large waves that could capsize or swamp small craft. For their personal safety, operators of small craft are urged to postpone their outings until the winds subside.
