ST. GEORGE — The Orchestra of Southern Utah is preparing for its “Silver & Gold Soirée – Silent Auction & Raffle” fundraiser to be held May 13 and invites donations and art from the Southern Utah community to help its effort.

The soirée in May will be held at Stonehaven Special Events in Cedar City, offering light hors d’oeuvres with alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages and live music by the orchestra’s musicians.

The evening of fun and sophistication serves to raise needed funds for the orchestra’s continuing operation, its news release said. Seasonal concert ticket sales only cover about 10-15 percent of the orchestra’s annual operating budget. Grants and donations change from year to year. So fundraising makes it possible for the orchestra to provide beautiful music to the community every year at an affordable price. It also helps foster new connections, support and relationships for the orchestra throughout the area, bringing people together through the arts.

Before the evening can happen, the orchestra needs contributions from the community.

Event directors Suzanne Tegland and Ariel Rhoades are looking forward to building on last year’s success.

Donations invited include anything from gift certificates for a business or service, to merchandise and artwork. Monetary donations are also welcome.

Last year, donations included handmade quilts and jewelry from local artisans, professional photographs of local landscapes and several pieces donated from professional New York-based artist Lane Twitchell, who has local ties to Cedar City.

Those with items or services to donate may contact the orchestra’s manager, Emily Hepworth, by telephone to 435-233-8213 or email.

Large items for donation may be taken to Whittlesticks Inc. at 535 South Main, Suite 5, in Cedar City where owner, J. Luke Heaton has offered to store them.

In appreciation for donations, donors will receive a complimentary ticket to the soirée.
