ST. GEORGE — A 15-year-old Hurricane boy died Sunday night after falling at least 200 feet from a Hurricane cliff.
The boy, identified Monday as Pierce J. Adamson of Hurricane, was hiking with an adult family member to the top of a cliff in the area of 1100 S. and 100 West at approximately 8:50 p.m., Hurricane City Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said.
“This is an area where there are a lot of cliffs along the subdivision area,” he said.
Once at the top, the boy reportedly walked toward the edge of the cliff.
As the boy stood at the cliff’s edge, the rocks gave way, causing the 15-year-old to fall approximately 200 feet, Buell said.
The family member hiking with the boy called 911.

First responders arrived on scene and located the boy’s lifeless body in very rugged and rocky terrain, Buell said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Washington County Search and Rescue responded to assist with the recovery of the boy’s body which was brought down off the mountain at approximately 11:30 p.m.
“The totality of the situation is very devastation (sic) and the impact of his death has rattled our community,” Buell said. “Our deepest sympathy to the family, friends and community.”
Buell said there are no indicators of anything suspicious involved in this incident, but in any death, he said, investigators will conduct an investigation, which is ongoing.
It was not immediately known how long the two had been hiking when the fall occurred, Buell said.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Condolences to the family and friends. My heart sank when I read this. I can’t imagine how you all feel. Tragic accident. Don’t blame yourselves. It’s not your fault. I imagine the what if’s are tormenting the family member he was hiking with. Those what if’s will drive you mad (insane). What happened, happened, and it’s not your fault (you didn’t push him) don’t go to a dark place inside yourself. Celebrate the boys life and stay in the light! Sincerely, ladybugavenger
