Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Washington County

ST. GEORGE —The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for south central Washington County. This warning is in effect until 11:15 p.m. MDT.

At approximately 9:13 p.m., doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in Washington County.

Affected area

Some locations that could experience flooding include St. George, Washington, Hurricane, Santa Clara, LaVerkin, Toquerville, Leeds, Virgin and Bloomington.

Additional rainfall of .50 to .75 inches is expected over the area. This additional rain will make minor flooding.

Precautionary – preparedness actions.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain, dry washes, streams and rivers can become raging currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
