Trump gets Gov. Herbert’s vote

ST. GEORGE – Utah Gov. Gary Herbert told media Thursday that he intends to vote for Donald Trump this November.

The governor’s remarks came during his monthly news conference on KUED when he was asked who would receive his vote.

“I’m voting for Donald Trump,” Herbert said.

Herbert had supported Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in his bid for the Republican’s presidential nomination. However, after Cruz dropped from the race earlier this year the governor said he would support whomever ending up being the GOP nominee.

The governor also mentioned his longtime friendship with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Fox 13 News reports. Herbert appeared a little more energetic about Pence, who is Trump’s vice presidential pick.

“I think he’s a great individual,” Herbert said. “I think he’ll bring some stability.”

Herbert said he likes Trump for his position on states’ rights and his ability to pick nominees for the U.S. Supreme Court.

As for Trump’s rather unfiltered comments that tend to offend this or that group while on the campaign trail, Herbert said he wasn’t an apologist for the presidential candidate. Some people like what Trump has to say and how he says it, others don’t, he said.

Fox 13 News also reported that Hebert hopes Trump will mellow once in office, saying, “How you campaign is not necessarily how you govern.”

Utah Democratic Party Chair Peter Corroon issued the following statement in response to Herbert’s announcement:

“Unbelievable. Shameful. Appalling. Those are just some of the words that came to mind when I heard Gary Herbert confirm his plan to vote for Donald Trump in November. Governor Herbert has shown once again that he prioritizes politics and his own party over what is best for the people of Utah. When he publicly voices support for a man who has disrespected so many groups of people, even calling for a ban on Muslim migration; a man who would be a disaster for Utah’s economy and cost us up to 95,000 jobs; a man who jokes about gun violence against his opponent; a man who is so clearly unfit and unqualified to be president, Utahns know Gary Herbert is not looking out for their best interests.

“Utah Democrats agree with Mitt Romney on this one: with Trump, ‘the prospects for a safe and prosperous future are greatly diminished … Donald Trump lacks the temperament to be president … Dishonesty is Trump’s hallmark … He is a phony and a fraud … If his plans were ever implemented, the country would sink into a prolonged recession.’”

“The choice this November could not be clearer, and that’s why I feel confident about our chances to turn Utah blue for the first time in decades. Unlike Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton believes that we’re stronger together, that we should have an economy that works for everyone – not just those at the top. She’ll be talking about this later today in Warren, Michigan, and I encourage Utahns to listen to the positive messages coming from national and local Democrats this fall.”

I was only here to read the “Comments” ???? I wouldn’t even know where to start with how badly “Stumpin 4 Trump” reflects on an individuals personal character & intelligence. It’s not a reflection, or question about what a POS he is anymore; that’s a proven fact. Now it just reflects on the good people still supporting him.

  • Henry August 11, 2016 at 7:13 pm

Mori Kessler – you should’ve made Peter Corroon the subject of this article, not Gary Herbert. You cited 263 quoted words from Corroon’s rambling bombast, compared to only 26 quoted words from Herbert’s three short responses.

    • godisdead August 12, 2016 at 11:55 am

      Troll Henry.
You have too much time on your hands if you have such a strong desire to count words in the article.
Herbert will vote for Trump. What do you think about that ?

      • Henry August 12, 2016 at 4:29 pm

You’re an internet stalker. What’s next, you come knocking on my front door? Like a true fascist, you try to intimidate those that don’t adhere to your ideology. If you want a face-to-face, provide a location and data/time.

If you had a scintilla of intelligence, you would’ve noted that the article was all about Corroon’s remarks, not Herbert’s. I included the word count (which took seconds to do) as the fact to justify my opinion – a totally foreign concept to you. Like Corroon, you avoid talking about issues or using facts. Instead, you deflect with insults and innuendo. You really thinking you’re swaying anyone?

I’m not a fan of Herbert, but I give him credit for supporting the better of the two options. Have you always been a Hillary fan, or are you a former Bernie supporter?

        • godisdead August 13, 2016 at 10:45 am

The article is about Herbert supporting Trump. Your comments are typical Troll reactions. Nothing but name calling, accusations, and now threats. What is wrong with you ? It seems you’re mimicking her donald.

          • Henry August 13, 2016 at 11:54 am

Look in the mirror, stalker. You continually do exactly what you accuse everyone else of doing. Are you mentally unstable?

Moderators, how much longer are you going to tolerate behavior like this? You’ve edited out offensive and over-the-top comments before from a variety of people; why do give this far left whacko a free pass?

          • godisdead August 13, 2016 at 1:50 pm

            Troll Henry,
I have yet to see you comment anything constructive. There is never an opportunity you don’t degrade others, be it the author of the news article or anyone commenting about the news article.
You ARE the definition of a internet troll.
Even though you intentionally attack people personally, you never admit that your behavior is inappropriate.
I invite you to go back over numerous articles you’ve commented on, and determine whether you degrade people, call them derogatory names, and question their intellect.
I have no problem with challenging opinions, just try to show some type of respect for others.
One last note. It’s childish for you to threaten violence like a schoolboy. Asking me to meet one on one, kind of like the boy who wants to meet after school, is very immature. It’s incredible how brave people like you can be, when it’s totally anonymous.

          • Henry August 13, 2016 at 7:32 pm

Godisdead – since you apparently cowed the moderators into silence, I hope that they will allow me the liberty to respond in kind.

You are a serial liar, accusing all in your way of the very behavior which you exhibit. You accuse me of “there is never an opportunity you don’t degrade others” – so why are you always referring to me as “Troll Henry”? Why did you select a provocative screen name like “Godisdead”, which many people consider insulting and demeaning?

You NEVER provide any sources to support your opinions. You rely upon name calling, innuendo, and cowardly personal attacks in ALL your comments.

So you want to review past articles in which we’ve commented? Okay, let’s look at just one article: an 8 August story: “In Focus with Chris Stewart on potential Trump Presidency”.

            – Your comment was the first in the story: “more than a joke…supporting a fascist…is worthless…sucking salary and benefits at the taxpayers expense….egomaniac, narcissist, lying…He’s a repulsive man with small hands.” No need for FACTS in the world of Godisdead, just smears and sexual intimation? You sound like a TROLL.

            – In my response to you, I called you out for saying “He’s a repulsive man with small hands.” I told you “You both apparently lack the intellect to make a rational argument, so you engage in demagoguery and smears instead.”

            – You responded with “pull your head out, Troll Henry…get a new hobby, maybe trying to comprehend what you read, instead of listening to the little voices in your head.” You sound like a BULLY.

            – I had responded to 4 other commenters in this story, and you responded directly to me on each one – your first signs of being an internet STALKER.

            – Here’s a sampling of what those 4 other commenters had said: “ignoramus has a fake two year junior college degree and can articulate his hands good” “even fascists can be lovable. A jack-booted thug” “small-minded, fragile narcissist on top of all his crazy ideas” “believing all the conspiracies”

            – All 4 of those commenters had factual errors, which were the basis for the follow-ups from both me and RealMcCoy.

            – Here are some your comments back to our follow-ups: “It makes you feel stronger instead of the weak guy you really are.” “Take a deep breath and try to focus on that and not the voices in your head.” “It fascinates me how your hate controls your so-called intellect.” “It always comes down to guns with you guys. Honestly, can you imagine how wonderful this world would be without them?”

            – Even Ladybugavenger had this comment about you: “This is funny to read. Godisdead has become a doctor and diagnosed me with mental problems, and says I force Jesus down his throat. Now he’s going to cry about Henry. LMBO!”

All of the above citations validate about YOU the things about which you accused ME: “There is never an opportunity you don’t degrade others.” “You ARE the definition of a(n) internet troll.” “you never admit that your behavior is inappropriate.”

What a demented, pathetic individual you are. If you wish to persist with your juvenile smears, insinuations, and spineless personal attacks while hiding behind your screen name – find someone else to stalk.

Don’t waste your time making any future comments to me – my responses back to you will be limited to a single curt remark that I doubt will clear the moderators.

Hey Herbie, here’s what your candidate said about Utah in a tweet,

“Who cares about Utah? Small state, strange people. Boring place.”

Aren’t you glad you endorsed trump?

    • ladybugavenger August 12, 2016 at 6:39 pm

Well, Trump wasn’t lying: it is a small state, definitely has strange people, and it’s boring as all get out.

It seems another career politician will vote for any idiot as long as it’s along Party lines. Not a one of them would ever condone Trumps behavior if he were not running for office under the R ticket. NO surprise here, just keep moving along please.

  • sagemoon August 12, 2016 at 11:19 am

To begin with, why do people vote for Herbert? I don’t think he’s been a very good governor but he’s Mormon and Republican, right?
