UPDATED 5:10 p.m. — Beaver Dam Fire Chief Jeff Hunt and Arizona Highway Patrol Sgt. John Bottoms said one lane of traffic has been open northbound, while southbound lanes remain blocked at milepost 18. Bottoms said if you must travel between St. George and Mesquite, to use Old Highway 91.

ST. GEORGE — As of 4:15 p.m. Monday Interstate 15 in the Gorge is closed in both directions due to a semi-trailer rollover.

The semi rolled in the southbound lanes at approximately milepost 14 south of the Cedar Pocket rest area. There is currently no time scheduled for reopening the highway.

The semi was carrying pigs and there are pigs roaming the highway. Drivers northbound are urged to use caution.

Those seeking to avoid the traffic backup in the Virgin River Gorge may take Highway 91 as an alternate route, which may save travel time and reduce congestion.

The highway bypasses the Gorge entirely, intersecting with I-15 at Exit 8 in Littlefield, Arizona, to the south and connecting to St. George at the north via Santa Clara and Sunset Boulevard. See map included in this article.

Updates will be provided as available.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Hoorah for Humanity. Horray for Hell On Earth.

The animals that we breed into existence have the same neural connections for fear, pain, security, bonding, joy, and cognitive abilities of a human toddler.
Pigs test at the cognitive level of human 3yr olds. They experience their lives with keen perception, aware of the morning air or the stench of trapped shit, the urge to run and leap, or the immobility of crowded indoor spaces. They grow up inside warehouses and the first time they enter the world at 6 or 9 months old, they are on their way to be slaughtered.

The average person is an assembly line of hell.
May all beings experience the suffering they cause.
May God receive all beings in empathy and grace the earth with balance.

Why can’t a bus with people like you flip over instead. Wonder if people would be making jokes.

  • Elise October 17, 2016 at 5:44 pm

@ladybugavenger and @mmsandie, are you guys freaking psychopaths?!?! A truck with live pigs inside turned over, hurting and terrifying these poor animals and all you can think is “I love bacon”, or “free bacon, anyone?” Have some compassion. If this was a truck full of dogs, then you might …, right? But since it’s pigs, who are actually a lot more intelligent than most dog breeds, all you can think about is eating their corpses. Shame on you.
    Ed. ellipsis.

  • ColinClive34 October 17, 2016 at 6:23 pm

Thanks for the censorship moderator, because jokes about eating dead carcasses is totally fine, but mine is too far I’m sure. Pathetic.

  • 42214 October 17, 2016 at 7:11 pm

Could the author bother to state the time the accident actually occurred rather than time stamped updates? It’s who, what ,when ,where, why and how. Not as of 4:15 PM I/15 is closed. Lousy reporting, as usual.

  • Bob October 17, 2016 at 7:38 pm

    lol, here piggy piggy piggy

  • Elise October 17, 2016 at 9:10 pm

How many animals were harmed? How were they handled? Please, please cover the whole story. Lives were lost today.

    • RealMcCoy October 18, 2016 at 12:47 pm

Yes, how were they handled? Were they Slow roasted?
      Barbequed? Marinated?
Is there a luau scheduled where I can pay my respects and condolences in the pulled-pork line?
Is Sonny Boys BBQ officiating this?
      Will there be seconds available?
Please, we NEED to know these things!!
