UPDATED 9:00 p.m. — Southbound I-15 remains closed. Scheduled time for re-opening the southbound side is 9:30 p.m.
UPDATED 7:00 p.m. — Southbound I-15 remains closed at MP 27 (Black Rock Road) while clean up and investigation into this accident continues.
UPDATED 5:55 p.m. — Southbound traffic is being stopped at the Black Rock Road exit at milepost 27 in Arizona while the crash cleanup continues. Use Old Highway 91 until further notice.
UPDATED 5:10 p.m. — Beaver Dam Fire Chief Jeff Hunt and Arizona Highway Patrol Sgt. John Bottoms said one lane of traffic has been open northbound, while southbound lanes remain blocked at milepost 18. Bottoms said if you must travel between St. George and Mesquite, to use Old Highway 91.
ST. GEORGE — As of 4:15 p.m. Monday Interstate 15 in the Gorge is closed in both directions due to a semi-trailer rollover.
The semi rolled in the southbound lanes at approximately milepost 14 south of the Cedar Pocket rest area. There is currently no time scheduled for reopening the highway.
The semi was carrying pigs and there are pigs roaming the highway. Drivers northbound are urged to use caution.
Alternate route
Those seeking to avoid the traffic backup in the Virgin River Gorge may take Highway 91 as an alternate route, which may save travel time and reduce congestion.
The highway bypasses the Gorge entirely, intersecting with I-15 at Exit 8 in Littlefield, Arizona, to the south and connecting to St. George at the north via Santa Clara and Sunset Boulevard. See map included in this article.

I haven,t driven in the gorge in 6 yrs, since they startd construction.. But this same accident happened, the same time 21 yrs ago, when I first moved here.. The insurance company requires them to catch aLl the piggies.. To get paid off… Free bacon anyone????

Pigs test at the cognitive level of human 3yr olds. They experience their lives with keen perception, aware of the morning air or the stench of trapped shit, the urge to run and leap, or the immobility of crowded indoor spaces. They grow up inside warehouses and the first time they enter the world at 6 or 9 months old, they are on their way to be slaughtered.
