At approximately 9:51 p.m., emergency and medical crews responded to a report of an industrial accident possibly requiring hand amputation at Sunroc Building Materials located at 3657 S. River Road.

The man’s hand had gotten smashed by a machine, St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley said, adding that crews “were able to get the man’s hand out while still attached” to his arm.

“He was wearing gloves,” Trombley said, “so that’s why they don’t know if any of the fingers had come off because he was wearing gloves.”

There was “serious bleeding” as a result of the accident, Trombley said. The man was subsequently transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George to be treated for his injuries.

It was not clear whether the man was an employee of Sunroc.

Requests for comment from Sunroc regarding the incident were not immediately returned.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
