CEDAR CITY – The arts administration master’s program at Southern Utah University is celebrating its 15th anniversary.
The program consists of a Master of Fine Arts two-year program that is completed on campus as well as a Master of Arts that takes from one to six years to complete online.
The Master of Fine Arts degree program is a two-year academic and experiential learning course of study that begins each fall, information from SUU’s website states.
The program includes 60 credit hours combined with work opportunities through SUU’s professional affiliates: artsFUSION, the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery, Frehner Museum of Natural History, the Southern Utah Museum of Art, Southern Utah University Advancement, SUU Center for Creativity and Innovation, SUU’s College of Performing and Visual Arts and the Utah Shakespeare Festival.
A limited number of students are accepted to the program each year, thereby providing personal instruction and mentoring in the classroom. Students also receive several opportunities outside of the classroom to participate in both scholarly and practical activities and projects.
While the Master of Fine Arts program has been in full swing for 15 years, the Master of Arts program started just three years ago.
The Master of Arts degree track includes specialized graduate coursework totaling 36 credit hours that develop graduates who balance administrative systems with the creative process in an effort to ensure the artistic integrity and economic sustainability of arts organizations, information from SUU’s website states.
Coursework in the online program includes financial management, development, fundraising, marketing, legal issues, leadership, arts advocacy, cultural policy and board development.
