Officers from St. George Police Department were dispatched to the crash at the intersection of 40 North Street and South Mall Drive at approximately 8 p.m.

The driver of a red Nissan Altima westbound on 40 North Street failed to stop at a stop sign, police Lt. Curtis Spragg said, and was hit by a Toyota Camry that was southbound on South Mall Drive.

One of the vehicle’s occupants was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries for evaluation. The other occupants were assessed and cleared by emergency medical personnel from St. George Fire Department.

The Camry was forced onto the median before coming to rest. It sustained heavy damage, including a smashed windshield and crunched front end.

The Altima’s driver’s side was smashed in and its airbags deployed.

While citation is pending, the driver of the Altima will likely receive a citation for failing to stop, Sragg said.

Both vehicles were inoperable and towed. The two tow truck drivers worked together to sweep the remaining debris from the road before leaving the scene.

Traffic in the area was light at the time of the incident and flowed without delay around the wreckage.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
