ST. GEORGE — Remnants of Hurricane Bud are expected to hit Utah on Friday and Saturday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a warning about potential heavy rains and flash floods.
The highest potential for heavy rains will be in the southeastern corner of Utah, including Moab and Blanding. Areas with a lesser potential of heavy rains stretch from the eastern side of the Wasatch mountains near Provo down to Zion National Park.
The area includes all five of Utah’s national parks and Lake Powell, which can see many visitors during summer weekends.
Potential for flash flooding impacts slot canyons, burn scars, normally dry washes and urban areas. To stay safe in an area under or near heavy rains, avoid entering dry washes, riverbeds and slot canyons.
Category 3 Hurricane Bud had wind speeds of up to 125 mph off the western coast of Mexico earlier this week, but by the time it hit land it was downgraded to a tropical storm, according to the National Weather Service. The storm is now heading north toward Arizona and Utah.
Bye bye #Bud! Another #hurricane is in the books. #GOESEast satellite captured its last hours as a hurricane in this side by side. The Tropical Storm will however continue to affect Mexico and Baja California this week. More images: https://t.co/P1F11zXUHI pic.twitter.com/1puOgQvVPB

Wow a little early for this nonsense, but I guess we gotta take it.
