Southern Utah weekend weather forecast: Conditions not looking good for Southern Utah wildfires

ST. GEORGE — According to the National Weather Service, this weekend’s weather for most of Southern Utah is expected to be warm for all three days.

While there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms near Lake Powell, a red flag warning has also been issued in Southern Utah, so officials are asking travelers and tourists to be careful and to be aware of fire restrictions, as well as road and trail closures in Dixie National Forest as a result of the West Valley Fire.

St. George

Friday

Forecast will be sunny with a high of 97 and low of 68, with calm winds of 5-8 mph.

Saturday

A high of 100 and low of 69, with winds of 6-11 mph.

Sunday

A high of 102 and low of 71, with calm wind.

Cedar City

Friday

Sunny with a high of 85 and low of 56, with winds of 6-16 mph.

Saturday

A high of 86 and low of 56, with winds of 7-16 mph.

Sunday

A high of 89 and low of 59, with winds of 5-8 mph.

Zion National Park

Friday

Friday’s forecast is sunny with a high of 86 and low of 55, with winds of 6-13 mph.

Saturday

High of 87 and low of 55, with winds of 8-15 mph.

Sunday

High of 89 and low of 58, with winds of 5-9 mph.

Lake Powell

Friday

Friday’s forecast near the lake will be mostly sunny with a high of 62 and low of 36. There will be a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with winds of 6-14 mph.

Saturday

High of 61 and low of 36, with winds of 9-14 mph.

Sunday

High of 66 and low of 42, with winds of 6-11 mph.

Warnings and advisories

A red flag warning is in effect for the St. George and Zion National Park area until 10 p.m. Friday. A red flag warning is also in effect for the Cedar City and Lake Powell area until midnight Sunday. Outdoor burning during this time is not recommended.

Affected areas include the majority of Central Utah West Desert, Color Country West Desert, Mohave Desert and Grand Staircase.

A hazardous weather outlook has also been issued for the western two thirds of Utah. Gusty winds and low humidity will bring critical fire weather conditions to portions of central and southern Utah Friday afternoon and evening.
