ST. GEORGE — A driver was transported to the hospital after a two-vehicle collision near Costco ended with both cars damaged and a driver cited Sunday afternoon.
Shortly after noon, officers and emergency personnel responded to North 3050 East, across from Costco on a two-vehicle collision involving a dark gray Chevrolet Camaro and a red Mazda passenger car.
Emergency Medical Technicians were the first to arrive at the scene, St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley said.
The man driving the Camaro was transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center for evaluation and treatment for what appeared to be a minor head injury, possibly resulting from his head hitting steering wheel when the crash occurred.
The family of three traveling in the Mazda reported they were uninjured in the collision, St. George Police Sgt. Spencer Holmes said, adding that the couple was in St. George shopping and were returning to Cedar City when the crash occurred, along with the couple’s eight-year-old daughter.
The investigation into the crash revealed that the Mazda was pulling out of the Costco parking lot to make a left-hand turn to head north towards the interstate, when it was struck by the Camero heading south on North 3050 East.
“The driver stopped before pulling out to make the turn, and thinking it was clear went ahead with it, but he didn’t see the Camaro,” Trombley said, adding that he may not have seen the oncoming Camaro over the cars lining the right-hand turn lane.
The impact damaged the front-end of the Camaro on the driver’s side, while the Mazda was struck near the front driver’s side wheel, which deployed the airbags, blew the tire and broke the axle, rendering the car inoperable.
Both cars were subsequently towed from the scene, and the Mazda driver was cited for failing to yield on a left-hand turn.

It’s Costco’s fault….it’s beyond time for them to build another store across town to take away some of these traffic problems
I’d rather see a Sam’s Club than another Costco.

I remember, back in the day, when you would “look” before making a left turn. If you can’t see a full size car, you shouldn’t be driving. This happens on a daily basis all over the St. George area, has nothing to do with the Costco.
Exactly, Mike P. And if your view is obscured, just turn right and find a safe place to turn around, further down the street.
