Letter to the Editor: From one Democrat to another, the Trump bashing isn’t working

OPINION — I seem to find myself in the minority in today’s national Democratic Party.

I disagree with the tendency of most Democrats (including political candidates for Congress and those in the news media) to constantly bash Donald Trump over his obnoxious personality and his divisive comments.

As the very conservative “Morning Joe” Scarborough has said on his MSNBC show, when Democrats talk negatively about Trump, it just makes his supporters angrier and more protective of him, while corroborating their paranoid belief that the Democrats and the liberal part of the media are out to get Trump.

Rather, as Joe suggests, Democrats need to focus on communicating their values and telling the people how the federal government can be a force for good and can make life better for all Americans.

They don’t seem to realize that most Americans agree with them that we need to protect the safety-net programs such as social security, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, college student loans, and unemployment insurance benefits. Those are winning issues that we should constantly be talking about, not trashing Trump.

Well it is good to see that there are those among the Democratic party that are able to realize the destructive path that their leadership has chosen. I still can not for the life of me understand how anyone could choose to align themselves with the nasty, vile, destructive group that is the modern Democratic party, I am blown away how even a lot of the Jewish people continue to vote for Democrat’s, I guess they weren’t watching not long ago when Barrack Obama and his progressive friends tried his best to ruin the relationship between the United States and Israel, He sent millions of tax payer dollars to Israel to try and affect their elections for Prime Minister, and then they cry about the Russians in their attempt to affect this Countries elections, and are still continuing to spend millions of tax payer dollars on this phony witch hunt, this is but one of dozens of examples for the reason “we The People” chose to elect President Trump, and are proud of his accomplishments, and still love this great place we call America. You liberals have only strengthened our resolve!

    • Chris October 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

“we The People” chose to elect President Trump??? Hardly, Trump lost the vote by “we the people” by over 3 million votes. He became president by the quirk of the Constitution that we call the Electoral College.

      • ladybugavenger October 7, 2018 at 4:02 pm

In my opinion, it is because of the electoral college people do not go out and vote. Let’s say, you live in a red state, and you know it’s going for Trump (like in oklahoma) you may not take the time to vote because it will win the electoral college and your individual vote does not count.

However, if the Presidency relied on individual votes, more people would vote but it does not. So……Your point of numbers is moot.

        • ladybugavenger October 7, 2018 at 4:08 pm

I never voted when I lived in california why? Theres no point. Its blue. There are more people like me out there. However, I voted ou n Oklahoma because, for a moment, I felt my vote counted.

By the way, I got my CCW license, finally! Its a long process. From the 2 classes i took to the wait of the Bureau of Investigation background checks. It took 8 months.

          • Redbud October 10, 2018 at 9:35 pm

Ladybug I agree, that’s why sometimes I haven’t voted here in Utah because most the time the person I want to vote for, is already going to win anyways. Congrats on getting your CCW, I got mine too!

Only problem with your story is..Trump is the President and you are just a guy sitting behind your keyboard throwing a tantrum… Get over it already!

        • iceplant October 7, 2018 at 4:42 pm

And your problem is that you can’t say anything else. Get ready, big blue wave coming.

          • Happy Commenter October 7, 2018 at 5:01 pm

More like a blue trickle from a leaky outhouse. Drink it up…hahaha!

          • KR567 October 7, 2018 at 9:43 pm

Supreme Court Justice..Brett Kavanaugh have a nice day peaplant …!

          • Pa Triot October 7, 2018 at 10:44 pm

The only ‘Blue Wave’ any liberal will see is when they toss a tidy bowl tablet in their tank and flush. Remember all the hype about Hillary winning? Well…..get ready for another shocking disappointment. The Dems despicable behavior before, during and after the Kavanaugh confirmation will not be forgotten; particularly at the polls.

      • bikeandfish October 7, 2018 at 8:44 pm

The Electoral College isn’t a quirk of the Constitution. It was a critical component of its ratification. There was and remains distrust in a constitutional democracy at the federal level because of real issues surrounding “tyranny of the majority”. We were designed to be a constitutional republic with mechanisms designed to thwart majority rule at the national level.

Being upset because Trump won the race as it was designed makes no sense. It does undermine and semblance of a “mandate” but that’s always seemed like a contrived idea when a POTUS only wins by a few percentage points anyways

      • Redbud October 10, 2018 at 9:34 pm

Chris whether you agree with the “quirk” or not, it is the law. Hillary lost, now go to your corner and cry. Waaaaaawaaaaaaa!

  • Real Life October 7, 2018 at 8:44 am

It’s not just the constant Trump bashing. There are many other factors that are bringing the Democrats down. It’s the media. Their very obvious biased views (other than Fox), draw mistrust. Another huge factor is the behavior of these “activists”. It’s appalling to your average citizen. And there is a lot of hypocrisy. A lot of these movements are often backed by liberals who don’t necessarily practice what they preach. I agree with the author, the Democrats have a serious problem, and they need to change their tactics because they are pushing many of us in “middle” America to the right.

    • iceplant October 7, 2018 at 4:41 pm

You keep trying to convince yourself of those things if it makes you feel better. Your kind is about to get the shock of your life.

      • Real Life October 8, 2018 at 6:25 am

My kind? Read my post again. Middle America. You know, people not alt right, or alt left. My point is loony libtards have went off the deep end, and they are not doing their cause any favors.

      • Zionwatchdog October 8, 2018 at 1:36 pm

Yawn. This guy is off his rocker ^^^

        • Carpe Diem October 8, 2018 at 9:38 pm

What are they all going to do when Trump gets re-elected in 2020? Oh, it’s going to hurt long and hard.

  • hiker75 October 7, 2018 at 10:24 am

I agree. Mr Thump really gets off on any controversy and will take every opportunity to sensationalize it.

    • Carpe Diem October 8, 2018 at 9:37 pm

You actually just said that… After the Democrats on the Senate Judicial Committee made such clowns out of themselves?

  • Happy Commenter October 7, 2018 at 12:08 pm

Democrats and Liberals need time. As in any traumatic event there is anger, there is sorrow, and hopefully acceptance. Let us be kind, let us be patient, let us be understanding. PTSD, in time, can be overcome.

    • hiker75 October 7, 2018 at 2:01 pm

      We all need service dogs…

  • iceplant October 7, 2018 at 4:40 pm

My golden retriever is smarter than this ridiculous agent of Vladimir Putin.
Robert Mueller is still working… tick tock tick tock.

    • Happy Commenter October 7, 2018 at 5:03 pm

      You keep believing that!! hahahaha!

      • iceplant October 7, 2018 at 6:50 pm

You can’t deny that Robert Mueller’s investigation lives in your head, rent-free.
It will always be there. Gnawing at you like a rat nibbling cheese. That’s how they got Nixon. Slow and methodical work.
That’s how they got Gates, Manafort, Flynn, Cohen, et al. Slowly but surely justice prevails. Nibble nibble… tick tock.

        • 42214 October 7, 2018 at 7:29 pm

The only thing around here that lives rent free is probably you.

          • iceplant October 7, 2018 at 7:44 pm

            Well, that would be true.
Seeing as I own my home outright and paid off the mortgage 3 years ago.
Thanks for playing big guy… you lose.

          • Red2Blue310 October 7, 2018 at 8:28 pm

Ah. Another senior on medicare and social security, made his $ out of Utah and moved here for cheaper prices because he doesnt need the wage – who voted for Trump,

          • Red2Blue310 October 7, 2018 at 8:29 pm

… a billionaire who has no clue what is needed nor does he care

          • Happy Commenter October 7, 2018 at 9:12 pm

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for the St George Ut area due to liberal tears and melting snowflakes.

        • Mike P October 8, 2018 at 11:58 am

Redblue, you make absolutely no sense at all. What the heck does senior’s on medicare and collecting S.S. have to do with this article on Trump bashing?

          • Carpe Diem October 8, 2018 at 12:52 pm

Liberals just like to hear themselves bangin’ the drum… Making sense is not required… or even attempted, they are sooo confused.

  • Carpe Diem October 7, 2018 at 9:28 pm

All the crazies out there, celebrities, politicians and frustrated keyboard warriors, just keep resisting and keep losing. Even in the face of reason, of an adult telling them them that the idiotic behavior simply makes it worse, they can’t help it and indulge in ad hominem, strawman and all sorts of attacks, while failing to come up with any articulate arguments.

It’s OK, your world isn’t ending, you have a job if you want one, your retirement account is better than ever, and gas is fairly cheap.

So relax! Trump hasn’t killed you yet… but that blood pressure! Check it.

  • KR567 October 7, 2018 at 9:50 pm

Yeah another flash flood warning due to excessive peaplant tears

    • Carpe Diem October 8, 2018 at 12:49 pm

IKR, kinda funny that he rushed past the warning that the flood of tears was counterproductive.

And speaking of that BTW… WOW what a gift Avenatti turned out to be… can we have more, please?

      • Happy Commenter October 8, 2018 at 6:59 pm

He would have no clients if he didn’t pay them..How is he going to pay that $10 mil judgement against his phony law firm?

        • Carpe Diem October 8, 2018 at 9:36 pm

He doesn’t plan on paying it… One of the sleaziest and creepy porn lawyers to pop up in… forever! And he wants to run in 2020!

We can only hope! In the meantime, CNN and MSNBC keep booking him which doesn’t do much for their street cred or ratings.
