ST. GEORGE — U.S. Congresswoman Celeste Maloy has been selected as the commencement speaker for Dixie Technical College’s largest graduation to date.

The ceremony will honor over 1,000 students eligible to walk and will take place on Thursday, April 25, at 4 p.m. in the M. Anthony Burns Arena. Over 400 students are expected to participate in the ceremony, and those unable to attend in person can join via livestream at dixietech.edu.

Dixie Tech takes pride in its graduates as they complete their hands-on training, work to advance their careers, and join some of Utah’s most thriving industries.  Last year, 93% of Dixie Tech graduates joined the workforce in a job relating to their area of study, or went on to pursue further education.

According to a news release, Maloy was chosen as the commencement speaker to inspire and motivate the graduating students as they embark on their pathway into the workforce. Dixie Technical College President Jordan Rushton said he appreciates the support from Maloy and believes that she can offer advice that will encourage the graduates to strive for success.

“Her background and advocacy for Southern Utah and Washington County give her a perspective that can resonate with our graduates,”  Rushton said in the news release. “She understands the importance of technical education and the incredible impact it has on the lives of our students and our economy.”

Maloy joined Congress in 2023 as a representative of Utah’s second district. She serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the House Committee on Small Business and several caucuses, including the Colorado River Basin Caucus and Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus, where she can address issues directly impacting the West.

Prior to joining Congress, she served as a deputy Washington County attorney, a public lands attorney for the Utah Association of Counties and a staff attorney for the Washington County Water Conservancy District. Most recently, she was Chief Legal Counsel to former Rep. Chris Stewart. As a native of Southern Utah, she is uniquely aware of the issues facing the Second District, the news release said.
