The fire reportedly started after an all-terrain vehicle caught fire on the side of the road in the Dixie National Forest approximately 1.5 miles east of the Oak Grove Campground, Utah Fire Info reported.

It was reported at approximately 3:40 p.m., according to WildCAD-E, a computer-aided dispatch system. And as of approximately 6:30 p.m., it had grown to 22 acres, Hurricane Valley Fire District Battalion Chief Tyler Ames told St. George News.

“It’s not under control yet,” Ames said, adding that “there’s a lot of resources, and they’re getting a pretty good handle on it.” Resources were dispatched from across the Color Country Interagency Fire Center’s district, including those from Dammeron Valley Fire and Rescue, the Washington City Fire Department, the Utah Department of Natural Resources Forestry, Fire and State Lands, the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service.

On Tuesday, Utah Fire Info reported there was minimal fire activity overnight and that it was 50% contained. There were five fire engines, one helicopter and a Cedar City Hotshots crew among the resources still at the site.

No people or structures are reported as threatened at the time of this report. However, Hurricane Valley Fire advised people to avoid the area in a Facebook post.
