BYU Management Society scholarship banquet features LDS women’s leader

ST. GEORGE – Julie Bangerter Beck, 15th general president of the Relief Society for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be the keynote speaker at the “BYU Management Society Annual Scholarship Fundraiser Banquet” Friday, Nov. 3, at 6:30 p.m. The banquet will be held at the Courtyard Marriott located at 185 S. 1470 E. in St. George.

Beck was serving as the first counselor in the General Young Women Presidency prior to receiving her call to direct the Church’s women’s service organization. As a child, she learned to speak Portuguese when she lived in Brazil with her parents and 10 brothers and sisters while her father served as mission president.

Beck was appointed to the Dixie State University Board of Trustees in 2012. Beck, who was inducted into the DSU Hall of Fame in the area of Public and College Service in 2007, was a performing member of the famed Dixie College Program Bureau, a member of the executive council and marched with the Rebelettes during her time at Dixie. She went on to complete her education at Brigham Young University. As a full-time homemaker, Beck has been active in many educational and community efforts. She has been a leader in parent teacher associations, school district advisory councils, music teacher associations, community celebrations and local politics.
