eSMART fundraiser supports St. George area girls

ST. GEORGE – The St. George chapter of the American Association of University Women are hosting their annual Fashion Show Fundraiser to support eSMART Camp for Girls. The fundraiser will take place Saturday, March 21, from noon to 2:20 p.m. at the Entrada Clubhouse, 2537 W. Entrada Trail.

Tickets to the event are $35 per person or you can purchase a table for $350. There will be a live auction and opportunity drawings for items including, tickets to local events, artisan arts and crafts, paintings, sculptures and more.

Proceeds will help subsidize the cost of the eSmart, which is a STEM, science, technology, engineering and math camp for 7th grade girls in southern Utah. Each summer 80 girls spend 4 days/3 nights on campus at Dixie State University attending hands-on activities, workshops and panel discussions directed by women in the sciences both from the University and in the private sector.

The cost to host eSMART each July is approximately $460 per girl. The girls who attend are chosen through an application process that assesses their interest in STEM subjects and identifies possible financial need. Most campers pay $100 or less to attend. This fundraiser is one of the major ways that the St. George chapter of the American Association of University Women raises money to make eSMART happen.

If you aren’t able to attend the luncheon, cash donations are welcome and any amount is appreciated. Also consider sponsoring a girl for $400; we have a grant to cover $60 per girl and we can pair you with this girl and help to track her as she progresses through high school, into college and her career.
