St. Paul’s Catholic Women’s Council names honoree

ST. GEORGE — Annually, the National Council of Catholic Women and the Utah Diocese Council of Catholic Women ask all catholic women’s councils to nominate candidates for Woman of the Year. Clara “Carrie” Davis is Saint Paul’s honoree.

Clara Drotar Davis was born to John and Clara Drotar on January 26, 1937 in New Haven, Connecticut and has been affectionately known as Carrie ever since. Carrie had five siblings, two of which are deceased (sisters Anne and Mary Louise). Sister Rose resides in Branford, Connecticut, sister Peggy lives in Texas, brother John took up roots in Florida.

Born into a devout Roman Catholic family, Carrie attended St. Mary’s parish where she was baptized, received first communion and was confirmed. She was also a member of the altar society.

Raised in Branford, she remained there until 1957, when she and her husband Edgar “Bud” Davis moved to California. Bud and Carrie eventually settled in Burbank, where they raised three children – Gerri, Burt and Kirk – who all live in Santa Clarita, California. Bud and Carrie have eight grandchildren, Bradley,27, Andrew, 23, Erin, 21, Kameron, 20, Kelly, 18, Brian, 17, Jeffrey, 16, and Amanda, 12.

Bud and Carrie’s three children have dedicated their lives to service, with all three being in law enforcement along with two of their children’s spouses.

Following Bud’s retirement from the City of Burbank, the two retired to San Diego where they lived for 10 years. They have since lived in Penn Valley and Springville, California before finally settling down in Hurricane.

Carrie has devoted countless hours to the St. Paul Thrift Shoppe in Hurricane and enjoys ushering at the St. Paul Center. Carrie prides herself with her culinary abilities and a green thumb.
