ST. GEORGE — A bicyclist southbound in a northbound lane was sent to the hospital after being struck by a car at 260 N. Dixie Drive Sunday evening.
St. George Police responded to the incident at approximately 6:03 p.m.
The 43-year-old female bicyclist was riding on Dixie Drive in the outside travel lane going south in the northbound lane, St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley said.
The 35-year-old male driver of a red passenger car pulled out of West 260 North to make a right turn onto North Dixie Drive when the bicyclist hit the car’s front passenger side bumper and was thrown from the bicycle.
The woman appeared to be in pain and was gently assisted onto a stretcher by emergency medical services from St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross ambulance. She was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center for treatment with minor injuries, Trombley said.
The bicyclist was issued a citation for traveling in the wrong lane.
The driver of the car gave police a statement and was cleared to leave without citation.
“I’d just reiterate if you’re going to be riding in the roadway, you need to be going with the traffic flow and not against it,” Trombley said.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
Ed. CORRECTION: The location of the collision in this report has been corrected to 260 N. Dixie Drive, not 2656 as originally reported.

What a surprise. A bicyclist caused an accident.
They’re scapegoating cars now- “A bicyclist southbound in a northbound lane was sent to the hospital after being struck by a car…”
No, the sentence should read “The driver of a car narrowly missed being sent to the hospital when an assault bicyclist rammed his vehicle…”
We need to pass more sensible laws about bicyclist to prevent these tragedies…
Oh my golly gee whiz this could of been such a traumatic situation. she can count her lucky stars 2nite because she used them all up. just a simple case of not following traffic rules. live and learn on this one. I’m just glad that she has no life threatening injuries. She will be home with her loved ones. ..Praise the Lord !
Make sure to keep 3 feet away even though they are traveling the wrong way so that means you must drive into incoming traffic … Prime example of why they need to stay on the bike trails and out of traffic. Cyclist don’t care about there own safety or your own safety.
Well you pretty much described Real Life right there. he definitely has issues
The address is 260 N. Dixie Drive. It’s shown in one of the photos. The address mentioned in the article doesn’t exist. It’s the simple things that matter, like numbers.
They do matter, our mistake, Danielle. We have corrected the story.
Thank you so much,

Wrong address. There is no 2656 N Dixie Drive. 2656 South Dixie Drive does not have any of the buildings shown in the photos. Where did this accident happen?
As several earlier posts point out, the timing of this bicyclist-caused accident is unfortunate for the well-meaning author of the recent opinion letter. Bicycle-vehicle accidents are a two way street (pun intended) although I suspect vehicles cause the majority of them and bicyclists invariably are the injured parties.
Our mistake, Big Guy. The collision was at 260 N. Dixie Drive. The car turned onto North Dixie Drive from West 260 North.
I appreciate your bringing it to our attention,

Sounds more like a case of drunk bicyclist driver. Was the bicyclist given a sobriety test?
Why would anyone, bicyclist or car driver, be in an opposite lane of traffic anyways? Unless they were impaired.
Come on cyclists, obey the laws of the road. They apply to you as well. You’re not “special”.
